What Made CLS Successful for 145 years?
A few words from Pastor Kettner about what and why we Taught
The goal of Christ Lutheran School is to :
1) train children in the teachings of God's Holy Word; and
2) help children learn true wisdom, knowledge, and virtue that will help them grow up to be responsible adults, spouses, parents, workers, and members of their communities.
Here at Christ Lutheran Church and School, we take the closing words of Jesus in Matthew's Gospel very seriously, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo I am with you always even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18b-20) As Christians in the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod, we attempt to faithfully believe, teach, and confess all that God has taught us in His Holy Word. We do not pick and choose which parts of the Bible are true today and which parts of the Bible need to be reinterpreted based on the philosophies of modern culture. What God said 2,000 years ago is as true today as it was when He first spoke it or had it written down by His prophets, apostles, and evangelists.
To pass on this Biblical knowledge and faith to our students, we begin the first 30 minutes of each day together as a group reading, reciting, memorizing, and singing portions of the Bible, Bible verses, psalms, hymns, and parts of Luther's Small Catechism. In 2020, the next 45 minutes for all 6th-7th graders will include additional study of the Bible, Luther's Small Catechism, and our hymnal led by me. We do not expect all our students to become Lutherans or to be confirmed, but we do expect them to participate in the religious instruction with the other students in their grade.
Romans 10:9 says, "...if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." The number one goal of our church and school is to help people, young and old, be a part of God's heavenly kingdom. To God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be all honor and glory both now and forevermore.
In Christ,
Pastor Mike Kettner
